My name is Michael Rubin and I've been a high school math teacher for 12 years. I have 9 years of classroom experience but was forced to discontinue teaching in 2016 due to heart-health related issues. Since then I've worked as a teacher on special assignment, primarily working with Special Education teachers to build capacity and increase rigor in RSP classes.
As of September, 2018 I received a heart transplant and look forward to entering the classroom once again in the Fall of 2019!
In my last year of teaching, a colleague referred me to Dan Meyer's work with 3-act tasks. I've continued to be inspired by Mr. Meyer and the work of Jon Orr and Kyle Pierce at makemathmoments.com. I've created this website to share my ideas with others and to hold myself accountable to creating memorable moments for my students.
Feel free to connect with me on twitter @mikerubin84. I love discussing math, teaching, or heart health related issues! You can reach me via email at contact@newheartmath.com.
